Immigrants have always played a major role in the United States. Today, foreign-born workers are major contributors to the U.S. economy, especially in the restaurant industry. This has been recognized by scholars and business leaders for decades. Yet, the federal government of the United States has targeted immigrants for harassment, violated due process, and pushed to deport or detain as many foreign-born residents as it can.
