A new survey by Lake Research Partners of likely voters across four of the nation’s largest cities – including New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco – shows very strong support for raising the minimum wage over a period of several years for all workers, including tipped workers, to a living wage of $30 an hour.
Looking at the data for Chicago alone: two thirds of Chicago voters (67%) support the $30 minimum wage1, by a whopping margin of +46 points. A majority support it strongly (52%). Across demographics, including gender, age, and race, wide majorities of Chicago voters support the proposal, and support far outweighs opposition. Notably, Democrats (74%), women (72%), voters under age 40 (75%), and Black voters (81%) are even more strongly in support of raising the minimum wage for all workers, including tipped workers, to $30.
