A new survey by Lake Research Partners of likely voters across four of the nation’s largest cities — including New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco — shows very strong support for raising the minimum wage over a period of several years for all workers, including tipped workers, to a living wage of $30 an hour.
Looking at the data for New York City alone: over seven in ten NYC voters (72%) support the $30 minimum wage1, by a whopping margin of +53 points. A majority support it strongly (54%). Across demographics, including gender, age, and race, wide majorities of NYC voters support the proposal, and support far outweighs opposition. Notably, Democrats (85%), women (77%), voters under age 40 (77%), Black voters (85%), and Latino voters (75%) are even more strongly in support of raising the minimum wage.
