The subminimum wage for tipped workers is still just $6.60 an hour in the state of Illinois. A direct legacy of slavery, the subminimum wage raises wages for a workforce of nearly 200,000 tipped workers that is 63 percent women and 40 percent people of color, and positively impacts an overall restaurant workforce of 333,000 workers in Illinois.
